The famous "Green River"
flows through the heart of Sublette County,
providing great forage for the elk, deer, moose,
antelope, bears, wolves, coyotes, mountain sheep and
mountain lions. Besides providing a great habitat for
the wild animals, the Green River is known for it's
world class fishing, drawing people from all around the
world.
Our climate is semi-arid with approximately 275 out of
the 365 days in the year as clear & beautiful sunny
days. Summers are short, but comfortable at an average
of 79 degrees, cooling in the evenings. We love that! In
the winter we average about 12 degrees but have been
known to have our periodic cold spells which only seem
to go a few days to a week at a time. Our snow levels
have dropped in the past four years (as with the rest of
the northwest), but we still have ample enough to play
in!
Sublette County has derived a rich heritage from the
mountain men and pioneers who traveled west on the
Oregon Trail. Wandering out on the mesa and buttes one
can often discover Indian artifacts, fossils and
arrowheads. Because of the history the Oregon Trail has
provided, a special pageant is held in Pinedale every
year in July attracting people from miles around. A
great sense of the old west comes to life during the
"Green River Rendezvous Mountain Man Pageant." There is
fun for the entire family with a morning parade, booths
with items for sale, several activities for the kids
such as archeological digs, face painting, head dress
making, Indian vest making and other crafts pertaining
to the fur trade era. There is even a wonderful
performance by the local townspeople re-enacting the
era...keeping the history alive in the hearts of our
youth.
Our small wonderful town has plenty to do! There is a
Super Center that houses our movie theatre, bowling
alley, arcade and a large conference hall. There is a
beautiful, large, log library, an indoor swimming pool,
yoga classes, weight gym, marshal arts, aerobic classes,
a variety of dance classes, cross country skiing,
downhill skiing, snowmobiling, ice fishing, lake
fishing, river fishing, four wheeling trails, bike
trails, hiking/back packing, camping, horse riding,
sailing, water skiing, canoeing, rafting, church
functions, community functions, the Mountain Man Museum
to visit, hunting, golfing, ice skating, hockey and so
much more!
Don't forget to check out the link to the Pinedale
schools as we feel there is no better place for our
children to grow up. As one of the wealthiest counties
in our state, we are proud to say that a lot of the
money is put into our school system, leaving no one out
on educational experiences!
Concerned about health issues? Well, we've got that
covered as well. The Pinedale Medical Clinic provides
basic needs, but major surgeries are referred out to
Jackson (77 miles northwest of here) or to Salt Lake
City (approximately 3 1/2 hours from here). There are
two dental centers, the Pinedale Drug for your
prescription needs. We have a large, very nice home
health/retirement center, a chiropractor, counseling
center...and a spa to help avoid seeing any of these
guys!
We could go on and on about how wonderful Pinedale is,
but you won't truly know for yourself until you come pay
us a visit. |
